This year Japan comes to Monaco.
From 14th July to 12th September, this year's annual exhibition in the Grimaldi Forum is designed to give you an insight into Japanese culture and traditions. Entitled Kyoto to Tokyo, from Samurai to Mangas, the exhibition also marks the 10th anniversary of the Principality's congress centre by the sea. The idea is to celebrate the ancient traditions and futuristic icons that coexist in Japan today. Admirers of the old ways, and fans of the new culture will hopefully be brought together in the exhibition to discover a side to the Land of the Rising Sun they may not have experienced. In one area you'll find feudal Japan, samurai, traditional gardens and exhibits from museums. From here, a path representing the Tokaido road from Tokyo to Kyoto will be illuminated with engravings and photos from the 19th century. It leads visitors to the modern day Japan, with cinema, animation, mangas, games and robots.
In addition to the exhibition, the Monaco-Japan Association has a program of activities to introduce you to culture and traditions, most of which are free of charge:
