Christmas is a distant memory now and we're all back at work. The market at Port Hercule was a great success, but don't forget that the roller-skating rink remains open until 26 February. If you're still harbouring your Christmas tree, make sure to throw it away in one of the 11 designated collection points.

Now the free bus trial is over Monaco bus company (CAM) intends to eradicate paper bus tickets. There'll be no more machines at bus stops, although the driver will still sell you a ticket.

Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli has taken up her position as director of Opera de Monte Carlo, and her first production is Handel's Alcina, in which she also sings the title role. Most of the tickets are already sold out, but coming up are operas by Verdi, Mozart, and Rossini.

Looking ahead the Fight Aids Cup football match takes place on Monday 23 January. It's a charity match between Prince Albert's Barbagiuans, and Princess Stephanie's Cirque FC. Tickets cost 10 euros for adults, 5 euros for kids, and it's all for a good cause. Buy them from AS Monaco's website.
