What's new

Hope you're enjoying your day off for Corpus Christi.

Monte Carlo Television Festival starts tomorrow with 5 days of screenings, signings, and VIP evenings. Plenty of celebrities are expected to be in town and we're hoping for a glimpse of Joan Collins aka Alexis Carrington Colby of Dynasty, Antonio Fargas aka Huggy Bear of Starsky and Hutch, Neil Dudgeon aka Inspector Barnaby of Midsomer Murders, and Kyle Machlachlan aka Agent Cooper of Twin Peaks.

Also tomorrow Monaco Open Air Cinema's summer program begins. Check out our one page guide for June and July. If you'd prefer a classic movie the Meridien Beach Plaza is screening one of four every Tuesday evening from 13 June to 15 August on the hotel's private beach. The films all feature scenes shot around the Mediterranean: Golden Eye, Et Dieu Crea la Femme, Plein Soleil, and Mama Mia! Phone +377 93 15 78 88 for information and reservations.

L'Ete lounge continues to metamorphose with the launch of Monark night club last week. The quayside venue promises "unconventional" events that emphasise "performance" and "show" rather than music. Check it out on Friday and Saturday nights, midnight to 5am, with DJ Kris Corleone. For more information phone 06 07 93 27 96 and visit its facebook page at: Monark Club.

And finally, Stars n Bars is changing its logo. Proprietors Kate Powers and Didier Rubiolo are keeping the 5-pointed star, but changing its colours. The red, white and blue of the American flag are being replaced by a blue-green hue, reflecting both the restaurant's eco-friendly vision and the colours of the land and sea.

What's in the diary ....

Thursday: Professional women's lunch.
Friday: Orchestral Latin evening.
Saturday: Sea festival.
Sunday: 2CV rally.

Coming up next week, a passion for cars, a forbidden city, and a white midsummer party.

For lots more suggestions, visit maBoum's 7 day listing and enjoy your weekend.
(1) This week's quote is the title of an excerpt from the incidental music for Ibsen's Peer Gynt, composed by Norwegian Edvard Grieg, born this day 1843.
