What's new

It's all about art at the moment. Monaco Art Week started yesterday, with a free shuttle bus touring several of the Principality's art boutiques, each of which has put together a mini exhibition. ArtMonaco begins tomorrow and showcases contemporary and modern art from international galleries. Finally, following last Thursday's opening of Villa Paloma's Ettore Spalletti show, tomorrow Villa Sauber's new exhibition will provide an insight into how Fabrizio Moretti of Galleria Moretti builds his own, private collection.

On Tuesday evening we were in the audience at the Club des Residents Etrangers de Monaco (CREM) to listen to Riccardo Giraudi. You may not know the name, but you'll certainly have visited at least one of his restaurants, because M. Giraudi is the man behind Monaco Restaurant Group (MRG). We heard how he started in London doing PR for luxury restaurants, then returned to Monaco to work in the family meat trading business, before embarking on his one-man mission to change the restaurant scene in the Principality. Beefbar, Saliere, Mozza, Song Qi, Grubers, Moshi Moshi, Itagliani, Nacionalista and Cantinetta Antinori are all part of MRG. Some have successfully opened in other places too, notably the 1-star Hong Kong Beefbar, and Beefbar and Anahi (meat restaurant) in Paris.

We're sure M. Giraudi has a few more ideas up his sleeve. No doubt you'll soon be able to eat at a different MRG place every night for a fortnight!

(1) This week's quote reflects the opinion of Miss Rhode Island in the movie Miss Congeniality (2000). Asked to describe her perfect date, she answered, "April 25th, because it's not too hot and not too cold. All you need is a light jacket".
