What's new

Hotel Hermitage has a new DG following the retirement of Sergio Mangini. Louis Starck took over the position last week, having been director of the Fairmont since 2008. He has 23 year's experience in the hotel industry.

Hotel Metropole has announced it will no longer be using plastic straws in its drinks as part of Monaco Tourist Authority's 'green is the new glam' campaign. Instead, where bar staff feel a straw is necessary, they'll choose one made from PLA (polylactic acid), which is biodegradable under certain conditions. No doubt customers can also ask for their cocktails and fizzy drinks to be served straw-free.
And finally, summer starts in earnest tomorrow evening, when schools turf out the kids for two months, opening the gates again on 10 September.

What's in the diary ....

Thursday: Wine & business club dinner.
Friday: Live modern jazz.
Saturday: Fete de la mer.
Sunday: Iberian organ music.

Coming up next week, summer splash partybossa-latino, and New York jazz.
For lots more suggestions, visit maBoum's 7 day listing and enjoy your weekend.
(1) This week's quote is the title of a song from the musical Oklahoma!, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and music by American composer Richard Rodgers, born this day 1901.
