Great Balls of Fire (1)Autumn's here and with it lots of wine classes, tastings and food related events.
Joel Robuchon is planning to open yet another restaurant in the Metropole Hotel in Spring 2012. Apparently he's got Karl Lagerfeld on board to do the decoration of the new place, which is to be located by the swimming pool.
Regular diners at Chez Edgar should note that it's closing for work throughout October.
What's in the diary...
In our September 8th newsletter we reported that a new restaurant had opened on the Rock. La Montgolfiere serves something a little more refined than the Franco-Italian fare found in most places in the old town. We visited on a warm Saturday evening and sat outside in the peace and quiet of Monaco Ville. Chef Henri Geraci's menu includes dishes that fuse Asian style with classic French products, some simple Monegasque favourites, and occasionally a generous helping of truffles. A special mention goes to the creative, sushi style foie gras starter, which was a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. Our favourite main dish was the tataki tuna with piperade, and we just saved a little space to end the meal with a portion of brie with truffle oil. The three course dinner was 39 euros, the service was friendly and professional. Don't be put off by the location - we took the bus (number 1 or 2) up to the Rock, and the night bus home again. A great night out!
Please note: when we feature places and events, we're writing our own personal opinions rather than placing adverts. If you have a favourite restaurant or bar that you'd like us to feature, let us know.
