What's new
Y viva Espana! Monaco is getting a taste of Spain in the Metropole Hotel. The poolside Odyssey is now open for summer and Rodrigo de la Calle has taken up residence there, where he's replicating his El Invernadero restaurant and its Vegetalia Menu. Green haute cuisine is served for dinner, Tue-Sat, Jul-Aug. Phone +377 93 15 15 15 to make a reservation.
If you prefer pasta to paella, the restaurant up the road from Slammer's reopened on Monday. Forgi's (previously Casa Tua) describes its cuisine as "modern-day classic Italian", and it serves it up six days a week.
Several restaurants are participating in the Fourchette Solidaire campaign for the second year running (read about last year's event). Participating establishments are displaying the campaign logo on the door and collecting one euro from each bill. The funds raised are to be donated to Les Enfants de Frankie for its work with disadvantaged kids in the PACA region.
Landscapers are still at work in Casino Gardens but we can now see what they're doing. In the centre there seems to be a large, circular sunken lawn. Zig-zag paths have been laid, presumably for pram pushers and wheelchair users, and there are steps along the edges too.
And finally, a big cheer for our American readers who celebrate their independence today. Stars n Bars is hosting a street party on the terrace and networking with MonacoUSA on the StarDeck.
