What's new

Michelin has announced its annual list of starred restaurants. There are no changes in Monaco but elsewhere in the Alpes Maritimes, Pure et V (Nice) and La Filibuste-Martin's (Villeneuve-Loubet plage) have received their first star. In the Var La Voile (Ramatuelle) gains a second star and l'Arbre au Soleil (Le Lavandou) achieves a first. Seven restaurants have been demoted, including Chantecler (Nice's Negresco Hotel), Paloma (Mougins), and Les Bacchanales (Vence). The Guide Rouge is available from bookshops and Amazon for 24.90 euros.

Mediterranean restaurant Omer in the Hotel de Paris now serves Saturday champagne brunches. There's a serve yourself buffet of mezze favourites to start, then a choice of fish or meat is prepared in the kitchen and served at your table. Another visit to the buffet for pastries and dessert completes the meal. Brunch is served every Saturday, 11:00 to 15:00 and costs 100 euros pp, champagne included. Phone +377 98 06 39 39 for reservations.

SBM's One Monte Carlo master baker, Thomas Subrin, was invited to attend the Assemblee Nationale in France last week to further the cause of the French baguette. The Confederation Nationale de la Boulangerie Patisserie Francaise is hoping to have the loaf listed as a Unesco Intangible Cultural Heritage. Past successful listings include the 3-course gastronomic menu (2010) and Grasse perfume making skills (2018).

And finally, we've been asked to remind anyone who intends to join the Be Here Now ladies for lunch next Thursday, to RSVP today. Enjoy!
