What's new

We've waved goodbye to September and are looking forward to lots of cultural events in the coming months.  If you enjoy a good movie, take a look at the program for the Tout l'Art du Cinema season which begins next week. This year's theme is "belief" and Monaco's Audiovisual Archives have included six classic English language films, two of which we're especially looking forward to seeing again: Singin' in the Rain, and The Life of Brian.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and tomorrow evening the Monte Carlo Casino and other landmarks are being illuminated with pink lights to mark the occasion. Several charities are taking advantage of the campaign to highlight the need for funds to research other types of cancer too. There's a cocktail tonight (see the diary below) for lung cancer, and the fundraising art competition GemlucArt starts on Saturday. You may also have come across the "Go Sober for October" campaign that's taking place in the UK to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care.

Finally, we'd like to give a big thank you to Stars n Bars and students of the International University of Monaco. On Sunday they got together to help clear the quayside of plastic and metal packaging discarded at the Yacht Show. Their aim was to prevent the rubbish polluting the sea, and the initiative was part of Stars n Bars's EcoHub campaign to raise awareness about recycling.

What's in the diary ....

Thursday: Fight cancer with a party.
Friday: Grand orchestral concert.
Saturday: Country dancing.
Sunday: Beauty inside and out.

Coming up next week, an Irish revival, a Confident Girl, and an organic market.

For lots more suggestions, visit maBoum's 7 day listing and enjoy your weekend.
