What's new

It ain't half hot mum! Imagine a glass of beer, something cold, condensation dripping off the glass and sizzling as it hits your sun-baked knees. Well, you can keep your fizzy lager, because it's August and we've swapped Lucifer's heatwave for the damp, grey skies of the UK and the warm flat beer of the Great British Beer Festival. Hence the rather late arrival of today's newsletter, for which we apologise. Our missives over the next two weeks will be rather short affairs, as we find out what it's like for Monaco-based europhiles to holiday on Brexit British beaches.

Monaco Matin reported this week that L'Ete club has suddenly closed. It always struck us as the sort of place where Peter Stringfellow would have felt very much at home. In spite of that, the unfortunate employees have been laid off at the time of year when one would have expected the venue to have had no trouble making money. L'Ete's url redirects to a rooftop sushi bar located at the same address as the Miramar Hotel. So we're depending on you, dear reader, to let us know what's going on while we're out of the country.

What's in the diary ....

Thursday: Horny Tonky jazz.
Friday: Oriental night.
Saturday: Final fireworks entry.
Sunday: Musical storytelling.

Coming up next week, David Guetta, Renato Zero, and jam at Note Bleue.

For lots more suggestions, visit maBoum's 7 day listing and enjoy your weekend.
(1) This week's quote is from the poem For the Fallen, written by English poet and dramatist Laurence Binyon, born this day 1869.
