What's new

Hotel Hermitage's 1-star Vistamar has reopened and chef Jean-Philippe Borro has taken advantage of his lockdown isolation to fiddle with the cuisine. Lunch is now more of a bistro affair, with the restaurant offering a gourmet experience for dinner. Seats indoors or on the terrace, reservations on +377 98 06 98 98.

Peruvian restaurant Coya (see 10 May 2018 newsletter) is also now open for its 3rd season in the Sporting d'Ete complex. Eat in the bar 19:00-2:00, or in the restaurant until midnight. Phone +377 98 06 20 20.

Now that France and the UK have introduced regulations about wearing masks, it might be worth a visit to the Bettina shop at 29 rue Plati. Established in 1954, the Monegasque company is a specialist in luxury knitwear, but since the Covid crisis it's also been manufacturing masks. There's an interview with the DG, Philippe Prud’homme in the Gazette de Monaco.

If you're heading for rue Plati tho', leave the car at home, as Monaco's national bird, the Crane, is now nesting in the area. Construction on the Grand Ida project has begun, providing 160 social apartments, 350 parking spaces, a creche, offices and business premises. The Direction de l'Amenagement Urbain (DAU) is also digging up the road. Work is expected to be completed in 2023.

Speaking of construction work, there's an interview with Director of Public Works Jean-Luc Nguyen in the Observateur de Monaco. He estimates that the Covid crisis has set building projects back by three months. Other subjects covered include how sites are managed with health in mind, and the problems of noise pollution with regard to the 2018 law. If you're suffering from the drilling and worse, note that work is authorised Mon-Fri 7:30-19:30, reduced to 9:00-18:00 during July and August.

And finally, in sports news, if you haven't already heard, Niko Kovac is the new coach at AS Monaco, following the departure of Robert Moreno. And it won't be long before the Herculis Athletics meeting in August, when some of the best athletes in the world will be competing in Stade Louis II. Enjoy!
