This weekend the 28th Monte Carlo International Swimming Meeting takes place.

Monaco is the first stage of the Mare Nostrum competition, that gathers together the best swimmers in the world. Around 100 medal winners are taking part, 13 of them are Olympic champions, and 21 world champions. Up for grabs is a 15000 euro prize for any swimmer that beats a world record in a competition final. For beating a European record there's 3000 euros on offer, and 600 euros for a competition record. The last world records set in Monaco were in 2000 for women and 1994 for men.
