The Journées Européennes du Patrimoine take place this weekend in France but we'll have to wait until 24 September for Monaco's heritage day.

Meanwhile, here are our choices for going out in the Principality this week. Check VisitMonaco for more suggestions.

Art & literature & exhibitions

As part of the Prince Rainier III centenary Monaco's Conseil National has installed an exhibition called Le Prince constituant: l'accord des volontées. In addition it's naming a room after the former Prince in recognition of his role as 'father' of the 1962 Constitution.

On Saturday the exhibition Pablo Picasso et l’Antiquité opens in the Prince's Palace Apartments. It marks the 50th anniversary of the artist's death and looks at ancient Greek and Roman influences on his work.

Cinema

This week there are daily screenings of A Haunting in Venice, a loose adaptation of Agatha Christie's Hallowe'en Party. Directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also stars as Hercule Poirot, it's received positive critical reviews and been described as scary, with some moments that will make you jump.

Otherwise, The Equalizer 3 is showing this evening, Saturday and Tuesday.

Community

Join Conscientiae and the Mairie on Saturday to collect litter from the streets for World Cleanup Day. Meet at 9:30 at Monte Carlo Market, where SMA is handing out free sacks and gloves. Litter-pickers follow a route across town to the Rock where there'll be a waste weigh-in and a cocktail for participants. Contact environnement[at]mairie.mc.

Eating & drinking

Condamine Market traders are preparing special dishes tomorrow for a Mediterranean themed evening. It's organized by the Mairie and features traditional music and dancing, as well as a DJ. The event is linked to the weekend's Salon Monaco Mediterranée, which takes place at Fontvieille Circus Tent over the weekend.

Music & dance & festivals

A chamber music concert for the Rainier III centenary takes place on Sunday afternoon. Members of the OPMC are playing music by Mozart and Boulanger. If you're a member of CREM contact the club for reduced price tickets.

On Wednesday Carlos G Lopes is promoting his new album Azul over at Note Bleue. The music is a mix of Afro pop, Cap vert, and soul.

Networking

Join Club Vivanova at midday today in the Fairmont's Salon Mistrau. Cotignac's QVT Distillery is presenting its gin and vodkas after a light gin aperitif and lunch. Contact contact[at]clubvivanova.com.

Sport

Last weekend Rugby World Cup host France beat New Zealand 27-13. If you've not been able to get tickets for the games, you can always watch them at Slammers or Trinity Bar (ex-McCarthy) in Monaco. We hear that Ship & Castle and Gerhard's are screening matches too.

For something more refined, the Yacht Club is hosting Monaco Classic Week until Saturday, celebrating the art of living gracefully at sea.

On Sunday petrol-heads should check out Columbus Hotel's Around the World Grand Prix Experience. Brunch is served with a live broadcast of the Singapore Grand Prix.

Theatre & shows

Can you imagine a circus performance that tells the story of Romeo and Juliet? Me neither, but Canadian creative collective Les 7 Doigts de la Main has done just that. Suitable for all ages, Duel Reality is at the Grimaldi Forum during the weekend, then sets off on a world tour.

On Monday evening the Mediatheque is screening a 1991 concert of Charles Aznavour and Liza Minnelli at Paris's Palais des Congres.

And finally...

We popped into Conscientiae at the beginning of the week for an aperitif. The refurbishment is bright and modern, and the facade opens fully opens onto the quayside. Fresh air and light have completely transformed Stars n Bars's dark booths. It won't be long before we return to sample the new menu!

(1) This week's quote is a line from La Paimpolaise, a song by French singer-songwriter Theodore Botrel, born this day 1868. There is no cliff in Paimpol, in fact Botrel wrote the words before visiting the fishing village.
