Star ratings may soon change.

You might see a new category for Monaco's hotels in 2010. Bigwigs in the hotel and tourism industry are currently debating whether to change the star rating system. Currently, the highest category that can be granted to a Monegasque lodging is 4 star luxury, but moves are afoot to create a new 5 star category as a replacement. Adding the extra star will bring the classification into line with other international rating systems, notably the French one, which made a similar change last year. There's been no confirmation date for the reclassification yet, nor an indication as to which 4 star luxury hotels will gain a fifth star and which will continue to twinkle with 4.
