What's new

Hello and hurrah for a holiday in Monaco today: Fete Dieu. Hurrah too for Monaco Open Air Cinema, which opens on Friday. We'd like to tell you what's being screened but as of writing the program hasn't been published. The Cinema des Beaux Arts opens later this month.

Sports halls open next week, but Monaco FC is unlikley to be playing on the turf of Stade Louis II before July. The 2019-2020 football season ended prematurely on 30 April, when team positions were based on average points earned per match played. PSG topped the league and Monaco came in 9th. France's Ligue 1 website gives 23 August as the start of the new season, with some friendly matches likely in July. As of writing, no fixtures have been posted.

On the restaurant and bar scene, Castelroc is hosting a BBQ every Thursday (49 euros excl. drinks), and McCarthy's is pulling pints again. Remember that reservations are required, drinks must not be consumed at the bar nor standing around, and you'll have to wear a mask when not seated at your table. Condamine Market Hall has reopened for lunch and dinner minus the communal tables and with a maximum of 6 for groups. In SBM's Hotel de Paris, the rooftop Grill and iconic American Bar open on Friday.

As for events, CREM is open and organizing get-togethers for members. Other organizers are going virtual, with the annual Forum des Artistes exhibiting art on its website. You have until Friday to vote for your favourite work, but the exhibition itself remains online until 3 July.

And finally, if you haven't already seen it, watch out for the BBC 2 documentary, Inside Monaco, currently on UK television (see link to trailer below). The first episode featured Prince Albert, people who guide yachts and helicopters into the Principality, and workers in the Hotel de Paris. Enjoy!
