If I give up the seat I've been saving... (1)

It's time to start thinking about Christmas and if you're looking for British Christmas cards, crackers and such like, get down to Fontvieille circus tent on Saturday. It's the annual Ecumenical Kermesse.

The Christmas Village at Port Hercule opens tomorrow and has plenty of stalls with gift ideas. SBM's Christmas attractions around Casino Square open too.

In foodie news this week, a new Lebanese stall has opened in Condamine market hall, called Mezze Deli. For the moment you can eat in or take away, but there are plans to offer a delivery service soon.

Monday's Nice Matin carried an extensive interview with Alain Ducasse who's planning a summit to discuss the future of gastronomy with regards to ensuring that food should not only be good to eat, but also good for the planet. Meanwhile another Michelin-starred chef, Mauro Colagreco, has been named UNESCO's goodwill ambassador for biodiversity.

Also on Monday Didier Rubiolo of Stars n Bars announced the American diner's closure at the end of January next year. In the next couple of months some favourite old dishes will return to the menu. Something new will be established with the same team and in the same location, but it's all very hush-hush at the moment.

And finally...

The free bus trial has been extended to 2 January. Enjoy!

What's in the diary...
