What's new

Negotiations with the European Union are still continuing. No, I'm not talking about the last minute Brexit dash tonight, but about Monaco's Association Agreement. Discussions between the Principality and the EU began in 2015, but the pandemic has slowed things down, not to mention the arrival of new EU negotiators and ongoing problems with Brexit and the Swiss framework deal. Fortunately there's no deadline, only the desire to get a good deal..

Until 3 January, Monaco Red Cross and Fight Aids Monaco are asking for donations to support isolated and disadvantaged people. Every donation will power a light on the Christmas tree at the centre of the Christmas village. The "Une lumiere pour Noel" campaign is organized in partnership with the Mairie.

In brief

Monaco Convention Bureau has launched a new campaign, #REEVENT to encourage meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) organizers back to the Principality.

Commiserations to Stella Almondo who was pipped at the post in the finals of Prodiges. She's already benefitting from taking part tho', with several offers of concerts.

Nice Carnaval, scheduled 13-27 Feb 2021, has been postponed, likely resulting in a revenue loss of 30m euros for the region.

The Musee Oceanographique has reopened. Tickets should be ordered online, numbers are limited, and masks obligatory.

World Travel Awards have named Fairmont Monte Carlo as Monaco's Leading Hotel 2020.

Culture et Vous is extended throughout December, with ballet and orchestra tickets costing 5 euros, and some events free of charge.

Best wishes and thanks to Judith Gantley of Princess Grace Irish Library who has retired this week. PGIL's new director is Paula Farquharson.

And finally...

After two postponements, the Vivanova Luxury Lifestyle Gala goes ahead on Saturday afternoon, from 13:00 to 19:00 to fit in with Monaco's curfew. There are still a few tickets left for this 6th edition, which is raising money for Chances for Children and TAF The Animal Fund. Enjoy!

What's in the diary...

Thursday: Ladies lunch with hypnotherapist.
Friday: 2 ballets, 1 choreographer.
Saturday: Classical tempest & passion.
Sunday:  Beethoven sonatas.
