What's new

For a week starting tomorrow, Monte Carlo SBM's restaurant tables will be groaning with Russian gastronomic dishes, as the summer edition of Saisons de la Gastronomie Russe begins. The food festival also includes classes in British table manners, a gala dinner, and a Russian television game show.

If your taste is for something simpler, Monte Carlo Beach's new restaurant La Pizzeria is now open in the spot that used to be Sea Lounge (see our 12-18 March newsletter). The pizzas are prepared by Neapolitan pizzaioli Giovanni Pignieri and Tommaso Rosolio in an olive-wood fired oven, are 100% organic and served daily from noon to 5pm.

Expect to see stars of the small screen in and around Monaco this weekend, as Monte Carlo Television Festival is taking place at the Grimaldi Forum. On the other side of town, the annual International Mare Nostrum Swimming Competition is offering prize money for record breakers in the swimming pool of Stade Louis II.

(1) This week's quote is from former F1 driver Jackie Stewart, born this day 1939, and refers to the world champion's own opinion that his outspoken support for racing safety improvements may have saved his life, but had made him less popular.
