What's new

Welcome to our first newsletter of 2017.

It's three years since Nobu opened in the Fairmont Hotel and in celebration the restaurant has introduced three special dishes to the menu from 8 to 15 January. To promote the event, chef Masa Ouchi has recorded a video for Nice Matin, showing how to make sushis and makis.

A group of locals have joined together in an effort to persuade the Mairie to ensure that socca is available in the Principality. The chickpea pancake has been off the menu since Condamine Market Hall stall holder, Roger, fell ill. A facebook group was formed on 2 January and a few days later a petition was set up, which has already collected more than 300 signatures.

And finally, single use plastic bags have now been eliminated from Monaco's supermarkets and replaced by bags which are 30% bio-degradable. The proportion of bio-degradable materials used will increase to 60% by 2025.

(1) This week's quote is a line from the poem In Memoriam, [Ring out, wild bells], by Lord Alfred Tennyson. The words strike me as particularly relevant for New Year 2017.
