What's new

Welcome to a shorter than usual newsletter this week.

As most of you will know, Monaco's curfew has been brought forward an hour and begins at 19:00. It'll remain in place until 27 January and means that restaurants won't be serving in the evenings. You'll still be able to order home deliveries up to 21:00 tho'.

Access to the Principality for non-residents has been limited, although who won't get in and when doesn't seem to be fixed. The measure appears to be designed to manage the influx of shoppers looking for a bargain during the sales.

Talking of shopping, Carrefour Monaco has been the victim of misinformation. Confusing reports on facebook claimed that a third of staff have Covid. The hypermarket acted swiftly to confirm that only 19 of the 300 workers have the virus, and that the higher figure is a cumulative tally since March 2020.

In brief

The government has issued a press release with information for companies relating to VAT and import/export taxes in the wake of Brexit.

And finally...

Last week's quote by little known Scottish poet Robert Nicoll reminded us that it isn't long before we'll be celebrating Scotland's national bard Rabbie Burns. The British Association and Club Vivanova have joined forces for a Burns Day Lunch on 25 January, so dig out your tartan and your sporran and celebrate the great chieftain o' the pudding-race. Enjoy!

What's in the diary...

Thursday: Vivanova networking lunch.
Friday: French lecture on erotic art.
Saturday: Sailing regatta.
Sunday:  Piano recital. (1) This week's quote is a line from the first chapter of the book that introduced us to Doctor Dolittle, written by English author Hugh Lofting, born this day 1886.
