One thing has dominated the news this week; the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Here in Monaco the flag above the Palace has been lowered to half mast until after the state funeral on Monday 19 September. Saint Paul's church held a commemoration service on Saturday and has made a book of condolences available. There's an official online book too. The British Association cancelled its dinner yesterday, but events scheduled after the funeral will go ahead: the boules competition and Macmillan coffee morning.

Yesterday also marked a sad occasion, being the 40th anniversary of the death of Princess Grace. This evening Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra is performing a musical tribute to her.

And finally...

Saturday is World Clean Up Day and Stars n Bars is encouraging clients to pick up cigarette butts around Port Hercule. If you collect a pint pot full of dog ends during the day, the restaurant will reward you with a beer, wine or soft drink. Enjoy!
