If anyone at my funeral has a long face, I'll never speak to him again. (1)

Hope you're enjoying today's public holiday, the Feast of Corpus Christi, or Fete-Dieu in French. There's a Mass in the Cathedral at 17:00, followed by a procession through the streets of the Rocher from 18:15.

If you're taking advantage of the day off to travel, keep an eye on the air traffic news. Media have reported long queues and flight cancellations in the UK, but Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Schiphol are having problems too.

It's all change at the Hotel de Paris's Louis XV. Head of the hotel kitchens Franck Cerutti is retiring and the 3-star restaurant's Chef de Cuisine, Dominique Lory, will replace him. Lory's toque blanche will pass to Emmanuel Pilon who has several years' experience with Alain Ducasse. Meanwhile Chef Sommelier Noel Bajor is starting a new project within the SBM group and his boots will be filled by Maxime Pastor.

La Mome restaurant on the rooftop of Port Palace opened during Grand Prix, managed by brothers Ugo and Antoine Lecorche. They intend to open every day of the year, providing restaurant meals and hotel room service. In the evenings there'll be a DJ, pianist and singer. Average prices: 70 euros for lunch, 120 euros for dinner.

And finally...

Stars of the small screen are in town for Monte Carlo Television Festival this weekend, so keep your phone handy in case the opportunity for a selfie arises.

What's in the diary...

Thursday: Dinosaurs rule.
Friday: Street art.
Saturday: Voice Masters.
Sunday: Helmut Newton expo.
