What's new

Apologies to everyone who missed the newsletter last week when we had a much needed break. I opened my computer on Monday to discover that the 2021 edition of Monte Carlo International Circus Festival has been cancelled due to Covid-19. New dates have been set for January 2022.

A further disappointment is that Cinemas2Monaco has abandoned its Open Air Cinema schedule for the second half of September, screening its last movie on Tuesday. As for the indoor Cinema des Beaux Arts, it's now closed on Thursdays and is operating on a reduced program the rest of the week.

The Sportel business salon that was scheduled for October in the Grimaldi Forum has been postponed until February 2021, although the awards ceremony looks likely to go ahead this year.

It's not all bad news tho'. Monte Carlo's orchestral, ballet, opera and theatre programs for 2020-21 have all been published, and we hope there are few if any cancellations due to Covid 19. The Government has introduced new measures to counteract the recent rise in cases, including that masks must now be worn in the vicinity of schools, at bus stops and on access routes to the railway station, as well as the areas surrounding Casino Square, and Condamine and Monte Carlo markets. All regulations and recommendations are outlined on the Government's dedicated website.

And finally, we're in the middle of European Mobility Week, having already celebrated the 20th anniversary of the railway station and taken advantage of free bus rides yesterday. On Saturday litter-collecting walks are being organised, and on Sunday you should get on your bike for a ride round Port Hercule, which will be partially closed to traffic. Enjoy!

What's in the diary ....

Thursday: Vivanova's crazy party.
Friday: Jazz in the library.
Saturday: Cecilia Bartoli by invitation only.
Sunday: Beethoven.

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend.
