March 19th Newsletter

A greater matter by far than the discovery of all the Nile sources together. (1)

What's new

Well, the Government's response to the Covid-19 virus has developed quite fast since last week's newsletter, and all events have now been cancelled. Prince Albert gave a televised speech on Tuesday evening, stating that we can only overcome this trial if we are united and work together. He also stressed that there are no food shortages, so let's hope that we no longer see queues of anxious shoppers outside Carrefour and Marche U.

Yesterday the Government detailed new measures that are in place until 31 March. Briefly, these are that we should remain at home except for the following reasons: 1) essential business activity, 2) shopping for basic necessities, 3) health needs, 4) assisting children and vulnerable people, 5) walking your dog and the need for individual exercise. Business owners and employees who can't work from home must have a signed permit, and the Surete Publique has been charged with policing the measures. More detailed information is on the Government website at: Information relatives au Covid-19 en Principaute de Monaco. Follow the latest developments on the Government's facebook page.

And finally, because all events are cancelled and we're mostly staying at home, the content of the newsletter is a little different. This week we're thinking about food and have listed some suggestions in our diary links below. Enjoy!

What's in the diary ....

Thursday: Things could be worse.
Friday: Store cupboard ideas.
Saturday: Du vin et du gateau.
Sunday: Deliveries from Mr Room Service.

Stay safe and enjoy your weekend.
