What's new

Greetings to our neighbours and to all of you who are reading the newsletter on Monaco's Fete Nationale! Sadly this year the prince and his family won't be waving to well-wishers in Place du Palais, the carabiniers won't be parading, and no fireworks will light up the sky. The Te Deum mass at the cathedral will still be said tho', and lucky invitees will enjoy Cecila Bartoli's concert this evening.

The Metropole Hotel is scheduled to close for 18 months from December for renovation. At the moment it's hosting the crew of British TV series The Syndicate, the fourth season of which is also being filmed in the hotel. Next year It'll reopen briefly for the high season and close again in October 2021. Unfortunately this means the restaurant formerly known as Joel Robuchon (see 3 Sep 2020 newsletter) will lose its 2-star rating.

Some of you may remember that maBoum took a break at the beginning of September, when the team enjoyed a 5-night staycation at the Hermitage Hotel. We can't help wondering if our holiday set SBM's marketing team thinking, as they're now discretely offering Monegasques and residents a special deal, valid until 18 December. On showing written proof of your residency, you can book a night at Monte Carlo Bay from 183 euros, Hermitage from 252 euros, or Hotel de Paris from 376 euros. Free breakfast is included, as well as the possibility of an upgrade, and free car parking. If you're a CREM member you also get a special sweet treat. Use the break like we did, to see Monaco through the eyes of a holiday-maker; eat in a swanky restaurant, take a tour of the casino and spend an evening watching the gamblers, none of whom looked remotely like James Bond.
