...but Alan is a genius. (1)

At last summer is here. If you're heading for the beach to cool down with a swim, beware of the jellyfish!

Tomorrow is St John the Baptist's Day but celebrations in Monaco start at 21:30 this evening with a 'batafoegu' (bonfire) and folk dancing in Place du Palais. On Friday at 19:30 'Le Petit-Jean' and his sheep lead a traditional procession from Place des Moulins to St Charles Church. After a service they return for another bonfire, music and dancing.

Outside Monaco the Trophee d'Auguste in La Turbie is now open 10:00 to 18:00 non-stop until the end of August, and in Roquebrune the Maginot Line fort is organizing guided visits on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 14:30 until the end of September, +33 4 93 35 62 87.

Eating out

Monaco Hebdo carries a lengthy interview with Mauro Colagreco. The chef plans to build a small hotel next to his 3-star Mirazur restaurant in Menton. He also discusses his 1-star Ceto in the Maybourne Riviera overlooking Monaco, where the speciality is fish.

Riccardo Giraudi has opened a further two establishments. Maison Fonfon in Fontvieille Port serves provencale/nicoise cuisine for lunch and dinner, +377 92 05 77 33. On rue Princesse Caroline in Condamine, Mozzafiato is open non-stop from 7:30 to 20:00 for breakfast, light lunch and Italian aperitif.

On the far side of town La Vigie at Monte Carlo Beach opens tomorrow for summer evenings, serving drinks and sharing platters 18:00 to 23:00, +377 98 06 52 52.

And finally...

Fisherman Eric Rinaldi caught a huge red tuna in Monegasque waters last week (photo on facebook). Check out his restaurant and delivery service La Pecherie U Luvassu, for fresh fish and seafood.
