What's new

We tried newish restaurant Abbondanza this week, which is located on the ground floor of the Versailles Hotel in Condamine. As the name suggests, the food is Italian, and the menu features traditional starters, pasta and main courses. Spaghetti aglio e olio, always a favourite with us, was nicely al dente, with whole garlic cloves buried in the pasta like prizes in a bran tub. We also had saltimbocca made with San Daniele and sage, which was very tasty, with some crunchy tempura style courgette sticks on the side.

Monaco Audiovisual Archives annual film season, Cinema Tuesdays opens with a Finnish film next week. Movies are screened in the Theatre des Varietes and are usually preceded by a newsreel or short. This year's theme is "Social, Capital" and there are five English language features to look forward to, starting with Heaven's Gate (1980) in December. Coming up in 2015 there's A Fish Called Wanda (1988), The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds (1972), Moonlighting (1982) and Raining Stones (1993).

Finally, half term break starts today, and if you're taking some time out yourself, hope you enjoy it. If not, well at least you get an extra hour in bed on Sunday - don't forget to turn your clocks back.
