...Mary Lennox... was the most disagreeable-looking child ever seen (1)

There's trouble at t'mill this weekend. SNCF is cancelling all trains between Nice and Ventimiglia from 8pm tomorrow until 9am on Sunday. Passengers are up in arms because the railway company is providing no replacement bus service. Travelers must use local Zou buses 607 Nice to Monaco, 608 Monaco to Menton, and Zest bus 25 from Menton to Ventimiglia.

So, stay in Monaco and take advantage of the last 3 days of Semaine Europeenne de Reduction des Dechets (SERD). This morning take your old business clothes to Condamine Market for distribution to disadvantaged folk about to enter the workplace. Tomorrow there's a coffee-machine clinic for your broken appliances, and on Saturday there are workshops showing you how to make small repairs to clothes, and to convert old t-shirts into bags. Full details on the Your Monaco website.

Treat yourself to a slap-up dinner at Saturday's gala evening where you can watch four of SBM's starred-chefs prepare their signature dishes. It's no snip at 800 euros pp but includes a cocktail and live music. Phone +377 98 06 36 36.

Father Christmas has opened his office in Monaco. Kids have until 23 December to post him a letter in his dedicated box in the Metropole Centre, or any post box in the Principality. If an address is included they'll get a reply.

Pine trees have been delivered to Port Hercule for the Christmas market, but there'll be no ice-rink this year as it uses too much energy. A roller-skating rink is to be installed instead.

And finally...

Happy Thanksgiving to our American friends who are celebrating with lunch at the Hermitage, and dinner at Stars n Bars. Enjoy!
