What's new

We've spotted two new openings this week. First, Maya Mia, the latest Pastor venture, located in the old Cremaillere on boulevard Princesse Charlotte. Italian aperitif is served 18:00-19:30, with platters of meat, white pizza with olive oil and rosemary, and mini bruschetta with peppers. The dinner menu offers the usual Italian dishes, there's a selection of cocktails at 8 euros each, and a large wine list that includes many bottles with wealth-flaunting prices. If you've visited Maya Jah and Maya Bay, you'll know what to expect. Phone +377 92 05 20 30 for reservations.

Second, improvements to rue Portier have been completed and workers are now decking out the new units under the voie rapide. We spotted Duke last weekend, a cocktail bar adjoining Sensais. The venue boasts a party atmosphere, ideal for after work drinks. Chef Dominique Nouvian has devised a tapas menu that includes small plates of Asian style food (yakitori, spring rolls), as well as Italian nibbles and Spanish charcuterie. Phone +377 93 30 39 94 for reservations.

And finally, if you're traveling by train, check out the new 'a picina bibliuteca' at the railway station, where you can recycle books you've finished reading, music you've grown out of (vinyls, CDs), and DVDs you've finished watching. Help yourself to something else in exchange.
