A series of inspired follies. (1)

What's new

Will he? Won't he? Welsh legend, Tom Jones, is due to wow Monaco music lovers at the Sporting Summer Festival on Saturday, but the 78-year-old performer was struck down with a bacterial infection last week. So far he's canceled five gigs, the most recent being yesterday in Finland. We're waiting with bated breath and regularly checking the @RealSirTomJones Twitterfeed for further developments.

Live music has featured big on the Riviera during July. Nice Jazz Festival, where we saw funky French band General Elektriks, ended last week, as did Jazz a Juan, where the stage is now set for the Lunallena Festival, featuring Chemical Brothers tonight. In Vence, the Nuits du Sud continues until 3 August, with Al McKay's Earth Wind and Fire Experience performing next Thursday, 2 August.

And finally, Monaco Open Air Cinema has released its program for August and September. Mission Impossible for action, and Mamma Mia! for entertainment. Enjoy!

What's in the diary ....

Thursday: My God, it's full of stars.
Friday: Seal @ Red Cross Gala.
Saturday: Spanish fireworks.
Sunday: White Darkness & Lavender Follies.

Coming up next week, Russian rockers, harmonious Harvardians, and popera.
