What's new

We've received word that two new restaurants have opened recently.

A La Plancha set up their tables at the end of June, serving lunch in the premises vacated by La Merenda. The location is a bit off the beaten track, but worth searching out as It's managed by the team behind 3 Tapas and Bodeguita. There's a sunny, traffic-free terrace and air-conditioned interior. We've not had chance to try it yet, so let us know what you think if you get there before us.

Easier to find is Monaco Restaurant Group's new burger place called Grubers which opened last week. Service is daily, from 11am to 11pm, and in the slack afternoons between 3pm and 6pm they currently have a deal: buy a beer and get free corn fries. In addition to traditional burgers you can order veggie burgers, hot dogs, salads and "healthy" desserts.

Finally, the Saint Martin Gardens Grotto has reopened to the public after over 30 years. We've always been intrigued by the closed off paths that lead down the cliffs below the gardens, and now we can investigate them as they've all be resurfaced. In addition, the steps have been strengthened, railings have been installed and the rocky flower beds have been cleared of weeds.
