What's new

Galerie Charles III has a new resident in the form of Gaia Monte Carlo, a restaurant brand devised in Dubai by chefs Izu Ani and Oresti Kotefas. Check the menu out on its facebook page, which also includes lots of sound bites: fuelled by flavour and memories; when focus is key and food is an art; inspired by the Greek mountains, the sun and the sea. I'm no expert on Greek food, but recognised moussaka, taramosalata and tzatziki in the list of starters. Most of the main dishes didn't seem particularly Greek, other than perhaps the slow-cooked kid.

The first Gaia opened in Dubai in December last year and came in for some criticism after a negative review prompted the chef to ban the reviewer. Undeterred, the team has plans to move into London, Moscow and Miami with the backing of entrepreneur Evgeny Kuzin. The Russian's Bulldozer Group was also instrumental in introducing Sass Cafe to Dubai in spring 2014, although it closed last year. Gaia Monaco: Tue-Sun, 20:00-23:30, +377 99 99 09 69.

Over in Cap d'Ail the Riviera Marriot hotel has reopened its restaurant following 7 months of work. Named after Bolinas, a hippy community north of San Francisco, its chef Julien Perrier aims to encourage a simple, laid back atmosphere in the restaurant. The menu is available online and is bound to appeal to an international clientele. Lunch and dinner daily, 12:00-14:30 and 18:30-22:30, +33 4 92 10 67 67.
