What's new

Still grieving over the closure of Royal Thai and in need of Asian food, we visited Spicy Bamboo last Thursday. The restaurant is in Condamine, on Place des Bougainvilliers, with a modern interior. It has a facebook page with videos of the barman creating some whacky cocktails, but we preferred a safe bottle of rose and some fizzy water. The magret de canard with honey and sesame seeds was a bit too sweet for our tastes, whereas the spicy prawns were just right for me, but needed more oomph to please Mr maBoum. Side dishes of riz cantonais were extra, taking the total price to 103 euros. Entertainment was provided by a constant stream of mini witches, ghosts and zombies demanding treats with menaces.

Monaco is repeating last November's Moi(s) Sans Tabac campaign. Smokers who want to quit can obtain free kits from pharmacies and free "tabacology" consultations at Princess Grace Hospital (CHPG). Dr. Mohamed Mouhssine of CHPG will be on hand at No Finish Line to raise awareness of the health issues and to encourage quitters to take up running instead.

And finally it's Remembrance Sunday this weekend. There'll be the usual service at St Paul's, and a wreath laying ceremony at Churchill's statue on avenue de Grande Bretagne. Monday 11 November is a public holiday in France but not in Monaco, although the Principality's post offices will be closed.
