It's great to be back! While we've been away Monaco has had a record 120,000 visitors to the Monet exhibition, and ex-Bond Pierce Brosnan was spotted perusing the paintings last week. Numbers seeking help from the tourist office were higher than in 2019, with one hopeful asking if the Prince would be sleeping in his apartments during a visit and if it would be possible to speak to him.

But enough of that. What's in the diary? Here's our pick of the week, but don't forget to check the VisitMonaco site for more suggestions.

Art & literature & exhibitions

George Condo's Humanoïdes continues until 1 October and this evening entry is free from 18:00 to 21:00. The Valentin food truck is parked up in the garden selling antipasti, wine and soft drinks.

At Villa Sauber you can still see Santo Sospir, at the Oceanographic Museum photographer Greg Lecoeur's Pôles, des mondes fragiles continues until November, and in the exhibition rooms on Quai Antoine Ier you can learn about Prince Rainier III's vision for Monaco.

Cinema & theatre

Prince Rainier also features this evening at the cinema, in Rainier par Lui-Meme at 18:30. The best of the bunch from Hollywood this week is Barbie, at 18:30 on Saturday and Tuesday. Three action movies, Equalizer 3, Hypnotic, and Indiana Jones, all have middling metascores.

If you like a bit of horror the Mediatheque is screening A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) next Wednesday.

Eating & drinking

Conscientiae opened while we were away. The restaurant formerly known as Stars n Bars has a new menu and a new chef, Eloise Dorato, previously at Monte Carlo Bay with Marcel Ravin. There's a 3-course lunch menu for 28 euros, it's open daily for lunch and dinner, and for morning coffee at the weekends. The bar serves Blue Coast IPA and Blonde on draft. Let us know what you think if you get there before us.

Music & dance & festivals

Discover French singer-songwriter Gaspard Royant at Indigo this evening. His music is a blend of popular styles from the 60s to the 00s.

Next Wednesday the Israel Philharmonic plays Haydn and Brahms, and Butterfly Trio brings funky jazz and R&B to Note Bleue.

As students and residents return from their summer break there are plenty of opportunities for schmoozing. Tomorrow evening Club Vivanova has a Japanese aperitivo party planned, open to all.

Meanwhile members of the Club des Residents Etrangers (CREM) are gathering on Monday at Jimmy'z.

And finally...

that's more than enough to keep us occupied over the next 7 days, not forgetting the Rugby World Cup in Niceand Monaco Classic Week.

Oh, and the Government has reminded us that a new strain of Covid is circulating, yah boo sucks. Dig out your masks, cover your mouth if you cough, and get vaccinated if you're at risk.
