A flaming pathfinder of women's lib (1)

What's new

Today is International Women's Day (IWD), when we celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. This year's theme is 'Press for Progress', a rally cry to continue pushing for gender parity. We can all help further the cause, even if it's just challenging stereotypes and calling out inappropriate behaviour.

Because of IWD we're proud to use this week's quote to put a spotlight on a female engineer who was determined to succeed in what is still seen as a man's profession. Tilly Shilling raced motorbikes and cars, and invented a device that saved fighter pilots' lives.

So, we hope you'll join us tonight in raising a glass to toast women everywhere!

What's in the diary ....

Thursday: Clean Equity.
Friday: Symphonic titans.
Saturday: Vivanova luxury gala.
Sunday: Pink ribbon walk.

Coming up next week, when the railways reached Monacolunch with David Byrne, and a tribute to local jazz musician.

For lots more suggestions, visit maBoum's 7 day listing and enjoy your weekend.
(1) This week's quote is about British aeronautical engineer and motor racer Beatrice (Tilly) Shilling, born this day 1909. She invented the 'Tilly orifice' that countered engine cut-out in fighter planes during the Battle of Britain.
