The news in Monaco 3 April 2020

Sorry, what day is it?

Another day of lockdown in Monaco. I only know it's Friday because my online calendar tells me. Here's a roundup of the headlines today in the Principality.

Holy Week, perhaps the most important period of the Christian year, begins this weekend, marking the run-up to Easter. The Diocese of Monaco has published its calendar of celebrations, which it will broadcast on social networks as well as its own website, starting with mass at 11:00 on Palm Sunday.

The good people at Saint Vincent de Paul Society continue to help the disadvantaged and homeless during the crisis. Unfortunately businesses such as Maison Mullot and Jack Monaco, who provided food for distribution before lockdown, are now closed. As a consequence the charity must now ask for donations. If you're able to prepare food or donate groceries please phone 06 64 83 77 76 or 06 08 66 34 07, or email ssvp.stnicolas[at]monaco.mc.

You know what to do if you think you're developing Covid-19 symptoms, but what if you have a dental emergency? Dentists' surgeries are closed, but it's still possible to contact them by phone, email or for tele-consultations. If you have a problem, phone your usual dentist and if necessary you'll be put in touch with an on-call practitioner.

Unfortunately the Government website reports a further five people have tested positive, bringing the total to 60. Please follow the advice to stay at home in order to stop the spread of the virus and so reduce the strain on health services.

In the face of event postponements and cancellations, organizers of Sportel, which is scheduled for October, are optimistic that the event will go ahead. And to end our briefing and to spread "good vibes", we bring you Monegasque artist Olivia Dorato's new single. Watch the YouTube video below:
