Dance season starts in October
2013 is a special year for Jean-Christophe Maillot. The Director Choreographer of the Ballets de Monte Carlo celebrates his 20th anniversary as head of the dance company.
Maillot studied dance and piano at the Conservatoire National de Region de Tours, after which he joined the Rosella Hightower International School of Dance in Cannes. He was awarded the Prix de Lausanne in 1977, then joined the Hamburg Ballet, where he danced principal roles for 5 years. Unfortunately his dancing career was brought to an end by an accident, but he continued to work with dancers as choreographer and director. As such, Maillot created around 20 ballets with the Ballet du Grand Theatre de Tours. After a season as artistic director for Ballets de Monte Carlo, he joined the Principality's company in 1993, and has since created almost 30 ballets.
To celebrate Maillot's 20th anniversary, a surprise show is included in the Monte Carlo Ballet's 2013-2014 season (see below). This year's Christmas ballet is the Nutcracker, re-worked by Jean-Christophe Maillot as Casse Noisette Compagnie.
