Lighting up the summer sky

The Concours International de Feux d'Artifice Pyromelodiques de Monaco musical fireworks competition is taking place again in July and August. A highlight of the summer season, the competition involves four international companies, firing rockets from Quai Rainier III cruise ship jetty. The show is visible from several places around town, but to get the full effect of the music, you'll need to watch from avenue d'Ostende and Quai Albert 1er, where speakers are installed. Watch out for viewing parties at the Jardin Exotique, the Open Air Cinema and the Bateau Bus, and remember to book early if you want to take a seat at one of the harbour restaurants.
First organized in 1966 by the Mairie de Monaco, Espace Leo Ferre now runs the competition, which awards two prizes and two certificates of participation. The winning national team takes away a first prize of 10,000 euros, and there's 5,000 euros up for grabs for second place.
