Fetes de la Saint Jean 2018

Venue: Several places in Monaco

Traditional celebrations for Saint John the Baptist's Day

Celebrated over two nights on 23 and 24 June, in Monaco Ville and Place des Moulins, with entertainment from traditional folk groups, music, dancing and food.

23 June from 20:30 in Monaco Ville

The celebrations usually begin on the Rocher with a religious service (by invitation only), followed by a bonfire and folk dancing at Place du Palais, and ending with entertainment at the Place de la Mairie.

24 June from 20:50 at Place des Moulins

A procession departs from Place des Moulins in the direction of Saint Charles Church, where a religious service takes place. A young girl dressed in traditional Monegasque clothing places a bouquet of flowers at the altar and the Archbishop of Monaco performs the blessing of the sheep, followed by the departure of the procession heading back to Place des Moulins. At around 22:00 a representative of the Maintenance Provencale des Feux de la Saint Jean transports the Flamme du Canigou in a lantern to light a bonfire of joy (batafoegu), followed by a performance of the Monaco national anthem, a traditional folk show and at Marcel Pagnol Square a socca and fougasse party for performers and organizers.

Organized by the Saint Jean Club and Monaco Mairie. For more information phone +377 93 10 12 10 and visit the website at: Espace Leo Ferre: fetes traditionnelles - Fetes de la Saint-Jean.
