Mediterranee - splendide, fragile, vivante

Venue: Oceanographic Museum

Expo combining science, art, and raising awareness of marine environment

Exhibition extended to Spring 2013.

Exhibition of the Mediterranean and its biodiversity. Private opening 18th November 2010 by Prince Albert for National Day, open to public from 20th November 2010, exhibition on the theme Mediterranee.

Covering 2.5 m sq metres and with 220 species on show. The Mediterranean Sea's biodiversity is in a fragile state and this exhibition aims to raise awareness by putting 4 subjects in the spotlight:

  • proliferation of jellyfish
  • acidification of the oceans
  • foreign species
  • threat to the bluefin tuna
Includes a jellyfish ballet in a specially designed tank.

Wu Zei, Chinese artist Huang Yong Ping's hybrid sea creature sculpture commissioned by the museum was dismantled in March 2012.
