If like us, you're partial to a wee dram of whisky, we recommend the Maison d'Ecosse's Tasting Room in the Sporting d'Hiver, where we were treated to a fantastic tasting last week. There are experts on hand to advise newbies on a large range of special bottles and malts, many that are unavailable elsewhere in the region.

What's new?

Monaco FC is raring to go following last Sunday's friendly 0-1 victory over Arsenal. The team plays its first match of the season on home turf this weekend. Meanwhile, the Principality's basketball champions expect a decision before next week, regarding their status in the 2014-15 French league.

In other news, Monaco's Venturi heads to Lake Bonneville in the USA this weekend, where the electric vehicle company will attempt to break its own speed record. Over here, developers are hoping for a speedy decision over a new 18 storey building planned for the corner of avenue de la Costa and avenue Princesse Alice.

Looking ahead, the annual GemlucArt exhibition is scheduled for October, and ticket prices have been published for next year's Monte Carlo Rolex Masters.
