What's new

What a weekend! So many events, so little time! The wonderful Ristretto choir and orchestra, led by Errol Girdlestone, is performing a concert of Italian Baroque, including the heavenly Dixit Dominus by Handel. We've been blown away by the ensemble's past Christmas performances of Handel's Messiah, and expect Saturday's concert to be of the same standard. Tickets are 20 euros and proceeds will go to the Mothers of Africa charity, which aims to reduce maternal mortality and make reproductive health services more accessible.

So what's preventing us from attending the concert? Club Vivanova's annual gala takes place this weekend. It's the 5th one organized by Bradley Mitton, the charming New World wine professional. There's a red carpet photo opportunity, champagne and wine, 5-course dinner, a fashion show, charity auction, and for those with energy in reserve, dancing until 2am. If you want to extend the weekend, there are also a pre-gala dinner at Nobu, and a post-gala lunch at Maya Jah.

And finally, something to look forward to now the weather is warming up. A new ice-cream shop has opened at Place d'Armes, called Santo Gelato. It's open 9:00-22:00 Tue-Fri, 9:00-23:00 Sat-Sun, and closed on Mondays. The gelato is made in Monaco and you can order deliveries through Mr Room Service. If you want to join me for a tasting, let me know!

(1) This week's quote refers to British mathematician Philippa Fawcett, born this day 1868. She was unable to be acclaimed "senior wrangler" in 1890, in spite of obtaining top score in the Cambridge Mathematical Tripos exams, because at the time only men could be ranked.
